About

This is yet another vanity blog, and the only thing that distinguishes this vanity blog from other vanity blogs is that it belongs to me. And I’m not all that distinguished anyway.

But let me introduce myself – not that I expect anybody who don’t know me already to read this, or even expect people I know to read this, but this being a vanity blog I’m going to pretend that the reader is eager to find out who I am. I’m a Danish guy, professionally a software developer, in my spare time an amateur chef (even if my girlfriend says “chef” is a pretentious word for it, but I keep using it nonetheless), musician, photographer and brewer, and I’ve recently (April 2012) moved from Copenhagen to Berlin because this is where my girlfriend lives and long distance relationships are only fun for so long (that is, until about five nanoseconds after you say goodbye, knowing that it’ll be weeks before you see each other again). I also like parentheses a lot.

As a software developer I work mostly with web stuff. Stuff, in this regards, means websites and web based applications. I’ve ended up specializing in PHP for no particular reason, and in recent years I’ve also been working with JavaScript. Oh, and I like working with databases.

Being an amateur chef means first and foremost that I like cooking and I like experimenting in the kitchen, coming up with my own recipes. Not that I write them down all that often, but I tend to remember what works and what doesn’t. I’m pretty good at cooking, and I’m especially proud of my pizza baking skills and my chili con carne, even if the latter is too spicy for most peoples taste.

As a musician I’ve played in a few different bands, none of which ever amounted to anything, and in recent years I’ve been experimenting with synthesizers, mostly an analog modular Doepfer A-100 that I bought used a few years ago. It’s not a very commonly seen instrument, and buying a used one involved driving halfway across the country to pick it up, then driving the same way back.

I’ve always enjoyed looking at good photos, and recently I bought a used Canon EOS 350D for cheap. The built in flash doesn’t always fire (which is why it was cheap) but built in flash isn’t good for much anyway – besides giving people some ugly red eyes. It came as a kit with a lens that wasn’t good for anything unless you stopped it down to near-pinhole mode, so after purchasing my first old m42 lens with adaptor I converted it to macro using a recipe I found on the internet (basically I took off the front group of elements). You can see some of my photos in my gallery.

Brewing I do mostly with friends, and not that often. But together we’ve brewed a few hundred litres of (mostly) good beer so far, and once I get settled in in Berlin I plan on starting a small production of homebrew here. Call me biased, but one of the very best beers I’ve ever tasted is an Imperial Stout that we’ve brewed. I have a few bottles left, and I treasure them highly. In addition we’ve brewed Wit, Blonde, Red Ale, Brown Ale, Stouts, Porters, Barleywine, and something resembling Oud Bruin, but my all time favourite is the Imperial Stout.
